Val was born in the in the Peace River region of BC. She is the proud niece of the local historian and author of Peacemakers of the North Peace, Cora Ventress. Val and her mother Candace migrated to Prince George in 1993. Val studied Media and Communications at the UFV, Communications at SFU, and eventually landed on Education at the University of Alberta. She has worked in industry, education, communications, policy, and human resources. In her role as LEAP project assistant with Community Futures of Fraser Fort George, Val is thrilled to help foster positive growth for female entrepreneurs and business leaders in our region and guide the community in any way possible. Val is passionate about helping others and empowering people to make positive changes. She has a rescue dog, Tiberious, and two teen children. On her days off, you can spot her camping off the grid in her Boler trailer, volunteer farming in Newlands BC, or staring contemplatively at the fresh Masters of Professional Communication degree on her fireplace mantle from Royal Roads University.
